The stiffness of a brake caliper is of high importance for for the brake performance and the feedback of the brake system to the driver.
Their for the design goal during development of 22-050-OA was to improve stiffness (decrease deformation) compared to 22-048-OB but still keep the same wight.
In coorporation with Royal Institute of Technology a topology- and a parametric-optimization using FEA was performed. The results of the topology optimizations show the optimal distributions of
material for a certain load case and the parametric study shows in more detail how different parameters can be combined to obtain the goal.
The computations have also been verified by practical tests.
The design of 22-050-OA is 25% more stiffer both in the axial- and tangent-direction compared to 22-048-OB. The wight for 22-050-OA is the same as for 22-048-OB.
The use of advance CNC machining made manufacturing of 22-050-OA possible.
